Brix Calculations

Last updated 20170224

This little table will take your starting and final brix readings and spit out the starting and final gravities, index of refraction, alcohol by volume/weight and caloric calculations.

Original %Brix Original S.G. Apparent Attenuation
n/an/a
Final %Brix Final S.G. Real Attenuation
n/an/a
Refractive Index % ABV % ABW
n/an/an/a
Alcohol Calories Extract Calories Total Calories (12oz)
n/an/an/a

Simply enter values for the original and final Brix. The table will automatically update as appropriate.

Conversion routines ported to JavaScript from beer.c and beer.h by Domenick Venezia. According to his notes, "Formula was derived from the 69th edition (1988-1989) of the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, 'Concentrative Properties of Aqueous Solutions: Conversion Tables', Table 88 Sucrose. MathCAD was used to curvefit the data for Degrees Brix @ 20 C (% sucrose by weight) and specific gravity @ 15 C by weight) and specific gravity @ 15 C." This, of course, applies only to the brix to gravity calculations.
